1940s Turl Spot Photographic Exposure Meter

This 1940s Turl Spot Photographic Exposure Meter is a very rare piece of vintage photographic equipment. It is being sold as a collectible, for display only, and has not been tested.

The base can be removed revealing the battery compartment which provided the light source for the photometer. It would have taken a, now obsolete, battery e.g. an Ever Ready HP2.

In good condition for its age, the lens is dusty, with some signs of fungus, and no longer totally clear. The lens also has signs of balsam separation.

It comes with its original brown leather carry case, which is in good condition with some scuffs and scratches commensurate with age and use.

It measure the light in Log Foot Lamberts, a unit of luminance (brightness) more commonly used in the USA and often associated with the Motion Picture Industry.

Beautifully engineered from a chromed non-ferrous metal, the base of the photometer is marked:

Spot Exposure Meter

Pat No. 508122

WGH Turl

The patent, GB508122, dates to 1938 and was filed by John Ainger Hall and William George Haughton Turl.
